Foundation Storm Tide Warning Service


A severe depression and storm surge in the North Sea causes catastrophic flooding in south-east England 1953.
This leads to the development of the Met Office's Storm Tide Forecasting Service.


The Met Office (originally an abbreviation for Meteorological Office, but now the official name in itself), which has its headquarters at Exeter in Devon, is the United Kingdom's national weather service.
