flood event
1976
Storm surge Schleswig Holstein
At the night of January the 2nd to 3th 1976 a sudden low pressure area was built up over the northern North Sea within few hours. It reached its maximum (Hurricane) in the early morning hours (winds over 13 Bft). Already in the early morning broadcasting stations spread storm tide warnings. The flood did not reached populated areas but only affected agriculture land.
Although the 100-year flood from January the 3th 1976, in Hamburg was one meter higher, all dykes resist the water pressure up to Hetlingen to the Unterelbe.
