1st Sand nourishment
In The Netherlands experience with sand nourishment as a measure to repair beaches and dunes after coastal erosion and to reinforce weak dune belts has been acquired for about 25 years.
In 1990 a new coastal policy was introduced, in which sand nourishment is the major means to control coastal erosion. The national government has undertaken the task to bring the structural coastal erosion to a halt. The coastline of 1990, called the basal coastline, is the standard in this. As no structural erosion is allowed anymore, but the natural behaviour of the coastal area is to remain as well as possible, this is called Dynamic Preservation.
